Will A Weekend in Puzzleburg be "verified" (or at least "playable") on the Steam Deck?
·I expect that A Weekend in Puzzleburg will play well on the Steam Deck. I do not (as of now) have a Steam Deck on which to test the game, but A Weekend in Puzzleburg has the following qualities that I believe will make it a natural fit for the Steam Deck:
1. Full controller support - A Weekend in Puzzleburg supports controllers natively (e.g. I routinely playtest using an Xbox One controller), so the buttons on the Steam Deck ought to work seamlessly for the game. For more information on the control schemes for A Weekend in Puzzleburg, including available controller support, please see the prior blog post entitled "How do I play A Weekend in Puzzleburg" here: https://sunnydemeanorgames.com/news/articles/how-do-i-play-a-weekend-in-puzzleburg
2. Not graphically intensive - A Weekend in Puzzleburg has SNES-era graphics, so the Steam Deck should be more than capable of running the game. As a bonus, by not taxing the system's graphics card, that should theoretically enable longer battery life with the Steam Deck while playing A Weekend in Puzzleburg than you would get with some AAA game that is pushing the system to its limits graphically
3. Small file size - Although I don't yet know the final file size of the completed game, the demo takes up < 0.5GB, so I expect that the finished game would be only a few GBs (keeping in mind that the demo allows access to a large number of Puzzleburg's locations already). Given that even the Steam Deck model with the smallest amount of storage has 64GBs available, A Weekend in Puzzleburg should fit onto any Steam Deck model - without expansion card - and still leave you plenty of room for other games
4. Autosaves and a cozy atmosphere allow for stopping at a moment's notice - Last but not least, A Weekend in Puzzleburg is a cozy game with no combat, and it does not rely on reaction time at any point, so the game is very friendly toward putting down at a moment's notice. In addition, the game includes autosave functionality by default, such that it saves every time you move from one map to another. This means that if you do have to close the game unexpectedly, your save file will retain everything that happened up until the point you entered your current room
As you can see, A Weekend in Puzzleburg is a great fit for playing on Steam Deck. I hope to receive a Steam Deck myself (I have my place in line reserved for a retail unit, and I have applied for a development kit as well) so that I can run the game through its paces on the device and submit for official "verified" status. In the meantime, though, I expect the game will work on the Steam Deck.
