Why is the main character's hair blue? Can I change that if I want? What are the benefits?
·To start, yes - you can change the main character's hair color if you would like. There's a hair salon in town, and you can get the main character's hair dyed there. There are TEN colors from which you can choose:
1. Pink
2. Purple
3. Green
4. Orange
5. Turquoise
6. Red
7. Yellow
8. Brown
9. Black
10. Blue (this is your starting hair color, which you can return to at any point)
The main character's hair starts off blue for a couple of reasons: (a) I wanted a distinctive hair color to put on the game's promotional artwork to make the main character stand out and (b) there's a story reason for blue specifically that I won't spoil in this blog post.
I decided to put in this customization feature for the player primarily as an easy way for you to differentiate your save files at a glance if you would like. I figured it would be a quick way to differentiate among various save files if there is a picture of the main character's face and (if the player wants) the hair color is different in each picture.
As mentioned in a prior blog post, if you truly want to see everything that A Weekend in Puzzleburg has to offer (all the character classes, all the books, etc.), then it takes at least five playthroughs - you can find that blog post here https://sunnydemeanorgames.com/news/articles/can-i-see-everything-a-weekend-in-puzzleburg-has-to-offer-in-a-single-playthrough
Since the game encourages multiple playthroughs, I figured that giving the player a way to change the hair color would be a good option for feeling like you're truly playing a different version of the main character in each playthrough. For example, perhaps your first playthrough is with a blue-haired dance choreographer, your second playthrough is with a green-haired cookbook author, etc. At every moment in the game, you would see that your character in this playthrough is different from prior playthroughs without needing to open up the menu and look at the character class you selected. Of course, this is all optional - if you find a hair color you like, you can stick with it in every playthrough.
You may have perhaps noticed that I mentioned five playthroughs are required to see everything in the game, but there are ten hair colors. So feel free to try out as main hair colors as you like - the hair salon does not charge you for changing your hair color, thereby allowing you to experiment as much as you like!
