I expect that a first playthrough of A Weekend in Puzzleburg will take about four hours. The exact amount of time will of course differ for each person based on how many side quests you do, how quickly you read the on-screen text, and many other factors, but the general idea is that this is not some 100+ hour RPG.  This is a game with a limited scope taking place during a weekend vacation, and you should be able to complete it over a single weekend yourself, if you'd like to.

In other words, the title A Weekend in Puzzleburg refers not only to the length of time that the main character Cindy spends in Puzzleburg but also potentially how much time you spend there since the game can reasonably be played from start to finish over a single weekend.

However, that is not to say that after playing the game for four hours and reaching the end of the in-game weekend that there is no reason to keep playing.  There are plenty of reasons to replay the game, whether it's to read a different book, choose a different character class, change your hair color, or make other different selections to see how they change the events of your weekend.  As mentioned in the prior blog post titled "Can I see everything A Weekend in Puzzleburg has to offer in a single playthrough?," I have designed the game to be like the Fallout and Mass Effect games where it is worthwhile to try different "character builds" to alter the experience and see how things play out differently if you make different selections throughout your weekend.

Assuming three playthroughs to experience each of the three books in the game, that would take the game up to about ten hours of gameplay (figuring you'll be a bit faster on the second and third playthroughs since you know the solution to the puzzles you encountered in previous playthroughs).  To experience all the content in the game, I generally recommend a minimum of five playthroughs (one for each character class), but there are over 180,000 ways your weekend vacation can play out.  For details on how this number is calculated and a look at the things you can alter in your playthrough, please take a look at the prior blog post titled "Over 180,000 ways your weekend vacation can play out."

All that said, you can absolutely play through this game a single time and have a complete experience.  But in my experience, everyone vacations differently, so I wanted to reflect that in my game where each person would have a different experience from someone else.  If that entices you to play through more than once and see different outcomes, than by all means, feel free to - this is a game meant to be playable over the course of a weekend, so any one playthrough is not a big time commitment, after all.
